A review-stage fixed-size adaptation of FreeSewing Yuri: a roomy hooded sweater that opens and closes with two large buttons. The earlier curved-seam kangaroo-pocket hoodie description was incorrect and has been removed.

Fabric Cutting Checklist:

Press fabric before cutting to remove packing folds and pre-shrink fibers.
Align piece grainlines strictly parallel to fabric selvages.
Transfer notch markings with small 3 mm snips into the seam allowance margin.

Print Page 1 at 100% scale without page scaling. Check Metric box (50 mm x 50 mm) or Imperial box (2.0 in x 2.0 in = 50.8 mm) with a rigid ruler.

Tile Assembly Instructions

Align numbered registration marks and butt tile edges flush without overlapping untrimmed paper. Tape securely.

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions

Draft construction notes. Readable online; review against the pattern pieces before sewing.

Stabilise the Button Fronts

Fuse small interfacing patches to the wrong side at both marked button positions. Finish the front edges, turn them along the printed fold lines, press, and topstitch without stretching.

Join Shoulders and Set Sleeves

Join each front to the back at the shoulder seams. Match sleeve front and back notches, stitch the sleeves to the open armholes, finish the allowances together, and press toward the sleeves.

Insert the Underarm Gussets

Open each folded gusset and match its four marked points to front, sleeve-front, sleeve-back and back. Stitch one edge at a time, pivoting accurately at the points without sewing across the corner.

Close Side and Sleeve Seams

With right sides together, stitch from each wrist to the gusset and from the gusset to the body hem. Keep gusset points aligned, finish the allowances, and press toward the back.

Assemble the Lined Hood

Join the outer hood sides to the outer hood centre and repeat for the lining. Sew outer and lining right sides together around the face opening, turn, press, and understitch where accessible.

Attach Hood and Finish Hems

Match the hood centre to centre back and the hood ends to the front neckline marks. Stitch the hood to the neckline, finish the allowance, then turn and stitch the sleeve and body hems at the printed fold lines.

Sew Buttons and Final Check

Make two secure buttonholes on the overlapping front and sew the two large buttons at the matching marks. Check that the overlap lies flat and reinforce any stress points before the final press.
