Size Selection Guidance

Select your size primarily based on your high bust measurement if you have a full bust cup (C cup and above), or your full bust measurement if you have an A/B cup. The tank provides 8–9 cm (3.1–3.5") of positive bust ease. If you measure between sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size for a neater shoulder fit, or blending between bust and hip sizes following our guide.

Wearing Ease Explanation

Positive ease built into this pattern: +8 to +9 cm (+3.1" to +3.5") at bust, and +10 to +12 cm (+4" to +4.7") at hem sweep. Designed to float effortlessly over the torso without clinging or gaping.

Fabric & Materials

Seam Allowances & Cutting Layout

Exact seam allowances included in pattern lines, piece list, and cutting discipline.

Standard Seams

1.5 cm (5/8") included on all shoulder and side seams.

Hem Allowance

1.5 cm (5/8") total hem allowance, sewn as a double-turned baby hem (press up 6 mm, then fold 9 mm and edgestitch).

Neck & Armhole

6 mm (1/4") allowance designed specifically for clean-finish bias binding application.

Pattern Pieces to Cut

Piece Name Quantity & Orientation Grainline / Cutting Notes
Front Bodice Cut 1 on fold Ensure grainline runs strictly parallel to fold
Back Bodice Cut 1 on fold Higher neckline than front; transfer balance notch
Neckline Bias Strip Cut 1 on true 45° bias Width: 3.5 cm (1 3/8"), Length: see cutting chart
Armhole Bias Strips Cut 2 on true 45° bias Width: 3.5 cm (1 3/8"), Length: see cutting chart

Fabric Cutting Checklist:

  • Pre-wash and dry your fabric exactly as you intend to care for the finished garment to eliminate residual shrinkage.
  • Press the fabric completely flat before laying out pattern pieces.
  • Fold fabric selvage-to-selvage on the straight of grain. Test grainline alignment by measuring from the fold to the selvage at several points.
  • Cut bias strips at an exact 45-degree angle to the selvage; accurate bias cutting ensures smooth, puckering-free curves.

100% Scale Verification

Before printing pattern tiles, print only Page 1 with scaling set to '100%' or 'Actual Size' in Adobe Acrobat or your PDF reader. Do not select 'Fit to Page'. Measure the printed 50 mm x 50 mm (Metric) or 2.0 in x 2.0 in [50.8 mm] (Imperial) test box with a reliable hard ruler. Proceed with printing only when measurements match exactly.

Tile Assembly Instructions

Trim along the right and bottom border lines indicated by the scissor icon on each page. Butt trimmed edge against the adjacent page's marked registration lines. Match the diamond registration marks (1A, 1B, 2A, etc.) and secure with clear tape. Never overlap pages without trimming.

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions

Draft construction notes. Readable online; review against the pattern pieces before sewing.

1

Staystitch Neckline and Armholes

Staystitch the front and back neckline and armholes 10 mm (3/8") from the raw edge using a 2.0 mm stitch length. Stitch from the shoulder towards center front, and from shoulder towards the underarm. Staystitching prevents curved woven edges from stretching out of shape during handling.

Technique Tip: Do not pull or stretch the fabric as it feeds through the feed dogs.
2

Join Shoulder Seams

With right sides together, pin Front Bodice to Back Bodice along the shoulder seams, matching neck edges and armhole notches. Stitch at 1.5 cm (5/8") seam allowance. Finish the raw seam allowances together with an overlocker/serger, zigzag stitch, or French seam. Press seam allowances toward the back.

Technique Tip: Press over a tailor's ham to preserve natural body curvature.
3

Apply Neckline Bias Binding

Press your 3.5 cm bias strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Pin the raw edges of the folded strip to the right side of the neckline, gently easing the strip around curves (bias tape should be approximately 10–12% shorter than the neckline perimeter). Stitch with a 6 mm (1/4") seam allowance. Grade seam allowance to 3 mm, understitch binding to allowance, then turn binding entirely to the garment inside and edgestitch in place.

Technique Tip: Steam-pressing the bias into a curve with your iron before pinning makes application seamless.
4

Apply Armhole Bindings

In the same manner as the neckline, pin, stitch, understitch, and turn the armhole bias strips to the inside of both armholes. Press crisp and flat with ample steam.

Technique Tip: Keep your stitching line an even 6 mm (1/4") from the folded outer edge.
5

Sew and Finish Side Seams

With right sides together, align the front and back side seams, matching underarm seam junctions and hem notches. Pin securely. Stitch at 1.5 cm (5/8") from underarm down to the hem notch. Backstitch firmly at the hem slit reinforcement point. Finish allowances separately and press open.

Technique Tip: Reinforce the top of the side split with a tiny horizontal bar tack.
6

Hem the Curved Lower Edge

Press up the lower hem edge by 6 mm (1/4") toward the wrong side. Fold up a second time by 9 mm (3/8"), encasing raw edges. Pin in place. From the inside, edgestitch the hem 1 mm from the inner folded edge. Give the entire garment a final thorough steam press.

Technique Tip: For sharp curved hem curves, sewing a 6 mm basting line first acts as a perfect folding guide.

Troubleshooting & Fit Alterations

Solutions for common fitting hurdles and construction errors specific to this garment.

Problem: Neckline gapes or does not lie flat against the chest

Possible Cause: Bias binding was stretched during sewing or cut too long relative to the neckline opening.

Recommended Fix: Unpick the binding, gently steam-shrink the garment neckline with an iron, and shorten the bias strip by 2–3 cm so it stretches gently around the curve when pinned.

Problem: Armhole pulls or feels restrictive when reaching forward

Possible Cause: High armscye or insufficient armhole depth for your shoulder slope.

Recommended Fix: Scoop out the underarm curve by 1 cm (3/8") tapering to zero at the mid-armhole notch before applying bias tape.

Problem: Curved hem ripples or creates wavy folds

Possible Cause: Fabric was stretched or fed unevenly through standard presser foot.

Recommended Fix: Loosen presser foot pressure, use a walking foot if available, and use a generous burst of steam with a wooden clapper to set the fold.
