Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions

Draft construction notes. Readable online; review against the pattern pieces before sewing.

1

Prepare Deep Patch Pockets

Press top hem of pockets under and twin-needle topstitch. Position pockets onto front body markings, pin securely, and edgestitch in place.

2

Shoulder and Sleeve Seams

Reinforce shoulder seams with clear elastic. Stitch front and back bodice right sides together at the shoulders. Attach sleeve extension pieces to armscyes.

3

Cocoon Side & Underarm Seams

Align front and back along curved cocoon side seams and underarm sleeves. Stitch in a smooth continuous curve and press toward back.

4

Assemble Continuous Collar Band

Join collar band halves at center back seam. Fold band lengthwise wrong sides together and press. Pin band around entire front and neck perimeter, easing smoothly, and serge.

5

Attach Sleeve Cuffs & Hem

Form cuff bands into loops, fold wrong sides together, and serge to sleeve hems. Finish bottom curved hem of cardigan with a clean stretch topstitch.

Troubleshooting & Fit Alterations

Solutions for common fitting hurdles and construction errors specific to this garment.

Problem: Seams puckering along stitch line

Possible Cause: Thread tension too high or needle blunt

Recommended Fix: Insert fresh needle and test balance on fabric scrap.

Problem: Wavy edge along curved perimeter

Possible Cause: Edge was stretched while feeding into machine

Recommended Fix: Staystitch immediately after cutting and use walking foot.
