Guide de Choix de Taille et Ajustements

Select your size primarily based on your high bust measurement if you have a full bust cup (C cup and above), or your full bust measurement if you have an A/B cup. The tank provides 8–9 cm (3.1–3.5") of positive bust ease. If you measure between sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size for a neater shoulder fit, or blending between bust and hip sizes following our guide.

Aisance d’Habillement (Wearing Ease)

Positive ease built into this pattern: +8 to +9 cm (+3.1" to +3.5") at bust, and +10 to +12 cm (+4" to +4.7") at hem sweep. Designed to float effortlessly over the torso without clinging or gaping.

Lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics

  • 100% Linen (130–160 gsm / 3.8–4.7 oz) for structured, breathable drape
  • Cotton lawn or batiste for a featherlight summer top
  • Rayon challis or viscose for fluid drape and movement
  • Double gauze or cotton voile for an airy, relaxed texture

Mercerie

  • • All-purpose polyester or cotton sewing thread matching fabric
  • • Pre-made 12 mm (1/2") single-fold bias tape (2.2 m / 2.5 yd) OR matching self-fabric bias strips
  • • Stay tape or lightweight fusible edge tape (1 m / 1.1 yd) for neckline stabilization

  • • Standard sewing machine with universal needle (size 70/10 for lawn, 80/12 for linen)
  • • Sharp fabric shears or 45 mm rotary cutter with cutting mat
  • • Steam iron and pressing ham or rolled towel

Staystitch Neckline and Armholes

Staystitch the front and back neckline and armholes 10 mm (3/8") from the raw edge using a 2.0 mm stitch length. Stitch from the shoulder towards center front, and from shoulder towards the underarm. Staystitching prevents curved woven edges from stretching out of shape during handling.

Conseil technique : Do not pull or stretch the fabric as it feeds through the feed dogs.

Join Shoulder Seams

With right sides together, pin Front Bodice to Back Bodice along the shoulder seams, matching neck edges and armhole notches. Stitch at 1.5 cm (5/8") seam allowance. Finish the raw seam allowances together with an overlocker/serger, zigzag stitch, or French seam. Press seam allowances toward the back.

Conseil technique : Press over a tailor's ham to preserve natural body curvature.

Apply Neckline Bias Binding

Press your 3.5 cm bias strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Pin the raw edges of the folded strip to the right side of the neckline, gently easing the strip around curves (bias tape should be approximately 10–12% shorter than the neckline perimeter). Stitch with a 6 mm (1/4") seam allowance. Grade seam allowance to 3 mm, understitch binding to allowance, then turn binding entirely to the garment inside and edgestitch in place.

Conseil technique : Steam-pressing the bias into a curve with your iron before pinning makes application seamless.

Apply Armhole Bindings

In the same manner as the neckline, pin, stitch, understitch, and turn the armhole bias strips to the inside of both armholes. Press crisp and flat with ample steam.

Conseil technique : Keep your stitching line an even 6 mm (1/4") from the folded outer edge.

Sew and Finish Side Seams

With right sides together, align the front and back side seams, matching underarm seam junctions and hem notches. Pin securely. Stitch at 1.5 cm (5/8") from underarm down to the hem notch. Backstitch firmly at the hem slit reinforcement point. Finish allowances separately and press open.

Conseil technique : Reinforce the top of the side split with a tiny horizontal bar tack.

Hem the Curved Lower Edge

Press up the lower hem edge by 6 mm (1/4") toward the wrong side. Fold up a second time by 9 mm (3/8"), encasing raw edges. Pin in place. From the inside, edgestitch the hem 1 mm from the inner folded edge. Give the entire garment a final thorough steam press.

Conseil technique : For sharp curved hem curves, sewing a 6 mm basting line first acts as a perfect folding guide.
